Job Description: Assistant Manager

Overview

The position of Assistant Manager is a part-time position that reports to the franchise owner. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Manager is to support the store owner in providing a high energy customer experience.

Selling / Customer Experience

  • Understands that the high energy customer experience is the #1 priority.
  • Completes each OWL module as part of the High Energy Training in order to deliver the WBU high energy customer experience as the trusted local expert.
  • Uses successful selling skills to satisfy the customer and complete the sale.
  • Has read, understood and follows the Employee Handbook, including the WBU Ten Touch Points training.
  • Follows the best practices of the Person in Charge of the Customer experience.
  • Wears the logo name badge and logo apparel while working on the sales floor.

Personnel Management

  • Demonstrates a positive, enthusiastic and professional demeanor.
  • Assists with the hiring, training and coaching of store associates.
  • Assists in assigning duties for store staff and insuring compliance.
  • Helps plan and attends store meetings as required.
  • Completes any other duties as assigned. Merchandising
  • Has read and understood the Product Info Handbook. Has successfully completed the Certified Birdfeeding Specialist Program.
  • Understands and communicates the store’s merchandise and target products to the customer.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate inventory levels. Orders specific merchandise as assigned.
  • Assists with inventory management in the POS System including checking in, receiving and committing merchandise and pricing updates.
  • Completes the changing of displays, signing and the restocking of merchandise as directed by management.

Marketing

  • Understands the details of current promotions, events Marketing Planner.
  • Assists with displays, signing, staffing for upcoming promotions and events.
  • Assists in public relations, community talks, and store communication.

Administrative Control

  • Adheres to all store policies and procedures regarding the ringing of all transactions, any administrative duties and scheduling.
  • Assists in opening and closing the store and the accurate accounting of all cash and charge receipts, bank deposits, and daily, weekly and monthly bookkeeping.
  • Completes accurate and legible paperwork.

Loss Prevention

  • Adheres to all store policies and procedures regarding personal and store security.
  • Communicates security concerns to owner.

Store Maintenance

  • Maintains good housekeeping standards to help present a clean and well-presented store.
  • Ensures store personnel adhere to store cleanliness standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Flexibility to work any day of the week, including weekends. The position will have a regular part-time schedule but the employee may be required, with advanced notice, to work during days or hours outside their normal schedule or accept schedule changes, to meet the requirements of the business. Examples include but are not limited to busy holiday periods, when the owners are at offsite events, and to fill in during staffing shortages.
  • Self-starter and reliable.
  • Detail oriented (attention to detail).
  • Can effectively handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred, including training, coaching, delegating work to associates, and ensuring compliance.
  • Experience with retail point-of-sales systems or basic computer skills; the ability to learn and accurately operate our point-of-sale system.
  • Prior cash management experience, including balancing drawer, filling out required cash report, creating bank deposits, and managing petty cash; the ability to follow best practices regarding cash management as directed by the owners.
  • Must be able to lift (40) pounds.
  • Outgoing personality, great communication, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Previous work experience as a retail sales associate, sales representative, assistant manager in a retail setting or similar role desired.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to work and communicate well with others.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to continually learn and improve.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and spend extended time on your feet.
  • Basic math skills for handling transactions, calculating discounts, and balancing cash drawer.
  • Ability to complete accurate and legible paperwork, including daily cash report and bank deposit.
  • Ability to use successful selling skills to satisfy the customer and complete the sale.
  • Ability to maintain good housekeeping standards to help present a clean and well-presented store.
  • Ability to complete, or assign others to complete, the changing of displays, signage, and the restocking of merchandise on a regular basis; prior merchandising experience or the ability to create eye-catching displays is desired.
  • Ability to assist with inventory management including checking in, receiving, and committing merchandise and assisting in periodic physical inventory counts.
  • Ability to understand and carry out scheduled promotions, marketing, and events.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office products including Powerpoint, Word, and Excel is desired. Experience with Adobe software, SiteBuilder and/ or Salesforce marketing tools is a plus.
  • A passion for nature and a desire to learn about backyard bird feeding is necessary; a basic knowledge of backyard songbirds is a plus but not a requirement, as we will train you.
