Avoid Pesticides

A 2013 study from the American Bird Conservancy found that neonicotinoids, the most widely used insecticides, are lethal to birds. A single seed coated with these pesticides can kill a songbird. The American Bird Conservancy has helped persuade retailers to phase out these products. Another product, Round-up can be toxic to wildlife and is a suspected human carcinogen.  Although it has been used in invasive plant control, its use should be carefully considered for minimal impact to soil, surrounding plants, and wildlife.  Rat poison can also kill birds of prey as well as family pets.  For more information, see the links below.
