Fabulous Finches
Finches are energetic, fun to watch, and beloved across the U.S. Here are some fun facts: Goldfinches molt twice a year and are one of the last birds to nest in the summer. The eastern population of House Finches came about as a result of birds that were captured on the west coast, sold illegally in New York and released from captivity to avoid prosecution.
Learn more fun facts about the fabulous finches of Michigan at our event!

Fundraiser for the Sibley Prairie
The Sibley Prairie is the last of its kind in Southeast Michigan. An oasis in the heart of Brownstown Twp., the prairie is home to threatened species of plants and animals. 200 years ago, bison roamed there. Now we have a chance to save the 440 acre lakeplain prairie from development forever, but time is running out! We will donate 10% of our sales for the day and donations will be accepted in-store. At 6:00 pm, James Bull, a member of the Save the Sibley Prairie Coalition, will present a slideshow about the significance of the prairie. The program is free, but donations are welcome! Click here to reserve a seat. For more information about the Sibley Prairie and other ways to donate, click here.

Fall Migration Bird Feeding 101
Fall migration is one of the most exciting times of the year for bird lovers. Each autumn, millions of birds trave through southeast Michigan as they make their incredible journeys to wintering grounds across the southern United States, Central and South America. Thanks to Michigan's location along two major migration flyways - the Mississippi and the Atlantic - we have the opportunity to witness an amazing diversity of species passing through our region. An if we're really lucky-passing through our yards!
Finding reliable sources of food and water is essential for migrating birds as they rest and refuel for the next leg of their journey. Join us to discover how you can support birds in your own yard this fall, which species you can expect to see throughtout the season, and how best to attract them to your space.

An Introduction to the Amazing Migrating Raptors of North America
Featuring Sam Heilman, Certified Bird Feeding Specialist, this presentation will focus on introducing people to migratory raptors of North America, how they complete this extraordinary journey, conservation threats they face, and what people can do to support their conservation. In addition, they will learn fun facts about the individual raptor species! The event is free but reservations are encouraged at (734) 307-3456.
Sam Heilman was a volunteer with the Detroit River Hawk Watch for several years.
